Good news for bread lovers! Bread, Espresso, and Arashiyama Garden, a former Kobayashi Residence near Tenryuji Temple in Arashiyama, a designated cultural asset of Kyoto Prefecture, has been renovated into a café for the first time in Kyoto. The former Kobayashi Residence, a cultural asset designated by the Kyoto prefectural government, located near Tenryuji Temple in Arashiyama, has been renovated into a café, and will open on July 7 (Sun.). We visited the cafe one step ahead of you, so be sure to check it out.
Cafe & Bakery [with bread and espresso]
A beautiful garden spreads out [Bread and Espresso and Arashiyama Garden]. There are two buildings on the premises: the bakery "Pan to" and the café "Espresso to". This is the first time in Kyoto that a bakery and a café are located in two different buildings. (A third building is also in the works, but this one is still in the planning stages.)
When I stepped through the curtain of Cafe "Espresso to", I found myself in a calm, old-fashioned, Japanese-style space.

The café menu features a variety of sandwiches and sweets exclusive to Kyoto. [The menu includes matcha French toast made with Moo, a cube of bread for which Bread & Espresso and] are famous, and ciabatta sandwiches made with ciabatta dough with dashi and sesame oil kneaded into it.
Blanty Set "Matsu" 2200 yen (tax included) with drink *Photo shows 2 persons
The most recommended are the lunch sets (pine, bamboo, and plum). The "Matsu" set includes five kinds of bread baked at "Bread & Bread", quiche, canele, prosciutto ham, and seasonal fruit sandwiches, etc. The "Plum" set includes a large portion of bread, quiche, canele, and prosciutto ham, etc.
Plate lunch "Bamboo" 1,700 yen (tax included) with drink
The plate lunch "Bamboo" and the panini set "Ume" are also satisfying because of the large size of the bread.
Original bags and tee shirts were also available for sale.
The bakery "Pan to" offers a wide variety of attractive breads such as the popular bread "Moo", green tea French toast, and croissants. I was also interested in the presence of Kyoto-only bread made with Kyoto ingredients such as Manganji togarashi (red pepper) and Kujo leeks, which can only be purchased here. I was told that bread purchased here can also be enjoyed in the café (one person must order one drink).
Arashiyama is a busy tourist spot, but I found a calm space and peaceful time at Bread, Espresso and Arashiyama Garden. We hope you will visit there, too!
